Delhi Capitals Secure Fourth Straight Win
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], April 11: KL Rahul delivered another outstanding performance, helping the Delhi Capitals clinch their fourth consecutive victory in IPL 2025 by defeating the Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six wickets at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday.
Choosing to bowl first, the Delhi Capitals, spearheaded by the spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav (2/17) and Vipraj Nigam (2/18), limited the home team to 163 runs for 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Key contributions came from Phil Salt, who scored 37 runs off 17 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes, and Tim David, who added an unbeaten 37 runs off 20 balls, featuring two fours and four sixes. Despite a shaky start that saw Delhi Capitals at 58 for 4, KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs formed a resilient partnership, putting together an unbroken 111-run stand for the fifth wicket, leading their team to a convincing win. Rahul finished with an impressive 93 runs off 53 balls, hitting seven fours and six sixes, while Stubbs contributed 38 not out off 23 balls, with four boundaries and a six.
In the post-match press conference, Stubbs reflected on their victory, stating, "I had an old-school cricket mindset. I spoke with Faf (du Plessis), and we agreed it was a traditional game. You set it up and aim for 50 runs in the last five overs. KL took charge, allowing me to play cautiously at the start. Once we sensed an opportunity, I joined him, and we secured the win."
Commenting on Rahul's exceptional performance, Stubbs noted, "I had the best view of his innings. He mentioned that this is his home ground, and he knows how to play here, maintaining a positive approach throughout. He kept encouraging me to focus straight, which boosted my confidence."
Stubbs praised Rahul's abilities, saying, "He can do anything. He is an incredibly talented player and is in excellent form. If he gets a good pitch, we will witness his full potential."
When discussing the bowling performances of Yadav and Nigam, Stubbs shared, "It has been fantastic to see them excel for the team. Kuldeep even asked to bowl to me in the nets because the last time he bowled to me was during the World Cup final. If you can handle that net session, you're in a great position. It builds your confidence, especially when they bowl so well, and leaving that session feeling good puts you in a positive mindset."
Regarding his role, the 24-year-old said, "My responsibilities have varied. I feel international cricket can be seen as more traditional since the scores aren't as high as here. You often revert to past experiences. Playing in different situations is challenging, but that's cricket, and that's why we love it."
With four victories in a row, the Delhi Capitals will return to New Delhi to face the Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, April 13.
